Thassos is situated in the north-Aegean Sea, nearby the coast of Macedonia. The ferry journey to Thassos takes half an
hour and leaves from Keramoti on the mainland. This is 20 kms. From the airport.
The island has a surface area of 379 km2 and a coastline stretching 95 kms. Thassos is hilly and has many natural springs.
The center of the island has a chain of mountains with five summits of which the Ipsario is the highest measuring
1205 meters. Along the coast of the island is a scenic route for a pleasant drive.
Thassos was originally known for its honey and natural wood, that were mainly used for ship and house building industries.
Gold and silver were also mined and gemstones were discovered. The olive groves have been formed the centuries and
still are. Thassos is also very well known for its snow-white marble and the marble mines are still a unique place to visit.
